Crab & Pear Program

The Crab & Pear Program starts in early April. In order to ensure that your trees get the best treatment possible, treatments are applied in 2-3 week intervals. This ensures apple scab and other crabapple and pear tree ailments are addressed. All of our tree care services include monitoring of the entire landscape for any signs of trouble. This includes checking for brown spots or other discoloration on leaves, as well as looking for signs of tree insects. APPLE SCAB

The Presence of irregularly -shaped yellow patches that turn brown and die is a characteristic of chinch bug injury. Plant damage results not only from withdrawal of sap from the grass blade, but from chinch bug saliva, which contains substances toxic to the plant. Drought or heat stress may cause similar browning of turf, but proper watering will quickly rejuvenate the lawn. Turf injured by chinch bugs will not recover as quickly and may need to be seeding.

Cedar Apple Rust

Cedar apple rust is another fungal disease that can affect crabapple and pear trees. This disease is characterized by orange or yellow spots on the leaves, which eventually turn brown and fall off. The fungus also produces spore-filled galls on the juniper branches, which can be seen in late spring and early summer. If left untreated, this disease can weaken your tree over time, resulting in reduced growth and fruit production.

TRELLIS RUST

Trellis rust is a fungal disease that can affect both pear trees. Like cedar apple rust, it is characterized by orange or yellow spots on the leaves, which eventually turn brown and fall off. If left untreated, this disease can weaken your tree over time and result in reduced growth and also affect the fruit of these trees, causing them to become misshapen or discolored.

INSECTS

In addition to diseases, there are also various insects that can affect your crabapple and pear trees. These include aphids, spider mites, borers, scale insects, and leafrollers. While some of these insects may not cause significant damage, others can weaken your trees over time and result in reduced growth and fruit production.
