Leaf spot begins as small brown or purplish lesions on grass blades that expand over time. As the disease progresses, it can lead to leaf blighting and crown damage, resulting in thinning turf. In severe cases, this disease can significantly weaken the lawn and reduce overall density.

Red thread appears as pink or tan circular patches ranging from 4–8 inches in diameter. Pink fungal strands may be visible on grass blades during humid conditions. It is most common in spring and fall and thrives during long periods of moisture and dew.

Brown patch creates circular dead or thinning areas ranging from a few inches to several feet wide. In early morning, white fungal growth may be visible on affected grass. Severe cases can cause sunken patches and widespread discoloration, especially in tall fescue lawns.

Ascochyta leaf blight causes rapid straw-colored patches that can appear overnight. It is often mistaken for drought stress or fertilizer burn. While alarming in appearance, most lawns recover quickly with proper mowing height and watering practices.

Necrotic ring spot causes circular or ring-shaped patches of dead turf. It is more common in lawns with heavy thatch buildup or compacted soil. Kentucky bluegrass and fescue lawns are most affected, and recovery may require reseeding and long-term soil improvement.

Pythium blight appears as small, greasy-looking patches that can spread rapidly in wet, humid conditions. Infected turf may collapse quickly, sometimes overnight. White or gray fungal growth may be visible during early morning hours when moisture levels are high.
